چکیده

purpose : to compare the outcomes of coaxial microincision phacoemulsification with that of conventional coaxial phacoemulsification setting: department of ophthalmology, farabi and noor eye hospitals, tehran, iran methods : in a prospective study, 74 eyes of 74 patients with cataract were randomly selected to have cataract extraction using 1 of 2 techniques: coaxial microincision phacoemulsification through a 2.2 mm incision (37 eyes) or conventional coaxial phacoemulsification through a 2.8 mm incision (37 eyes) and foldable intraocular lens (iol) (sa60 alcon) implantation. intraoperative parameters were effective phacoemulsification time (ept), surgical time, and total volume of balanced salt solution (bss) used. assessed ocular biometrics included corneal topography, to evaluate surgically induced astigmatism (sia), as well as corneal thickness and endothelial cell count (ecc). results : using vectorial analysis the amount of sia was 0.04±0.34 diopter (d) at 126.7 degrees in the 2.8 mm group and 0.07±0.49 d at 11.8 degrees in the 2.2 mm group, at one month postoperatively. at 3 months, the sia was 0.06±0.41 d at 134.7 degrees and 0.10±0.62 at 161.4 degrees in the 2.8 mm and 2.2 mm groups, respectively. conclusion : although coaxial microincision cataract surgery (mics) was a safe and effective technique there were no clinical or statistically significant differences between 2 techniques in minimizing the effect of incision size on sia.   iranian journal of ophthalmology 201022(4):13-24 © 2010 by the iranian society of ophthalmology

[Comparative study of coaxial microincision cataract surgery and standard phacoemulsification].

PURPOSE To analyse and quantitatively compare the outcomes of microincisional cataract surgery (CCMIC) with those of conventional phacoemulsification, evaluating the induced astigmatism, endothelial cell count, corneal thickness and foveal thickness in the pre- and postoperative period. METHODS Prospective and randomised study, including 74 eyes of 37 patients with a mean age of 72.97±7.55 ye...

Results of coaxial phacoemulsification through a 1.8-mm microincision in hard cataracts.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE To assess the results of coaxial phacoemulsification through 1.8-mm coaxial microincision cataract surgery (C-MICS) phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation in eyes with hard cataracts in comparison to eyes with soft cataracts. PATIENTS AND METHODS Group 1 consisted of 40 eyes of 40 patients with hard cataracts (grade ≥ 4, Lens Opacities Classif...

Comparison of efficacy between coaxial microincision and standard-incision phacoemulsification in patients with age-related cataracts: a meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Incision size plays a critical role in the efficacy of cataract surgery, but the available evidence on ideal incision size is inconsistent. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of coaxial microincisional phacoemulsification surgery (MICS) compared with that of standard-incision phacoemulsification surgery (SICS) in patients with age-related cataracts. ...

Coaxial, microcoaxial, and biaxial microincision cataract surgery

METHODS: In this prospective randomized study, patients had standard coaxial (2.8 mm incisions), microcoaxial (2.2 mm incisions), or biaxial microincision (1.2 to 1.4 mm trapezoidal incisions) phacoemulsification. Intraoperative phaco parameters and total surgical time were measured and complications recorded. Postoperative visual acuity improvement, pachymetric differences, and surgically indu...

Comparison of Surgically-induced Astigmatism after Combined Phacoemulsification and 23-Gauge Vitrectomy: 2.2-mm vs. 2.75-mm Cataract Surgery

PURPOSE The 2.2-mm microincision cataract surgery and small-gauge vitrectomy system is known to result in less surgically-induced astigmatism (SIA) in comparison to conventional surgical methods. We compared the amounts of SIA after combined phacoemulsification and 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (23G-TSV) using the 2.2-mm microincision and 2.75-mm standard incision methods. ...
